Cafe Con Leche
Café con Leche
Cuban Coffee with Milk
Café con leche is a simple Cuban favorite made with strong espresso and warm milk. It’s creamy, sweet, and perfect in the morning with a piece of Cuban toast—or anytime you need a little pick-me-up.
Traditional Café con Leche
Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
¼–⅓ cup strong Cuban espresso
Sugar, to taste
Instructions
Brew a strong Cuban espresso using a moka pot or espresso maker.
While the coffee is brewing, heat the milk in a small saucepan until hot and steaming, but don't let it boil.
Pour the warm milk into your favorite mug.
Add the freshly brewed espresso. Start with a little and add more depending on how strong you like your café con leche.
Add sugar to taste and stir well.
Serve hot, preferably with buttered Cuban toast for dipping.
he Quick Way — How My Kiddos Grew Up Drinking It 🤍
And then there’s the quick and easy version—the way my kiddos grew up drinking café con leche in our house. No espresso maker and no waiting for coffee to brew.
Heat 1 cup of milk until it’s as hot as you like it. Add a couple of spoonfuls of Tasters Choice instant coffee and stir until dissolved. Add sugar to your liking—we like ours on the sweeter side.
Pair it with a nice toasted slice of French bread, or really any bread you have on hand. Spread a little butter on the toast while it’s still nice and warm, then dip that buttery, crispy bread right into your café con leche.
So simple, but so good—and definitely the way my kiddos grew up enjoying it. 🤍
